Britain needs stronger growth, reliable public services, more homes, safer communities and government that can deliver. Honest Politics is being built to weigh the full consequences of major decisions and choose what is most likely to improve life in Britain, rather than what is easiest to sell before the next election.

Why the name?
Honesty before party loyalty.
Most politicians hold some positions because those positions belong to their party. Honest Politics means refusing to defend an idea simply because it is conventional for our side.
We cannot investigate every opinion in full. But when an idea from a biologist, geologist, economist, theologian, frontline professional, member of the public, another party or another country looks promising on the surface, we will assess it on its merits. If its likely net benefit is stronger than the realistic alternatives, consistent with rights and deliverable in practice, we should adopt it and credit whoever developed it.
We do not promise to assess every suggestion. We promise not to reject a promising one because it came from the wrong person or the wrong side.
Not tribal.
An idea does not become wrong because another party proposed it, or right because it came from ours.
The governing principles
Seven commitments behind every policy.

Honesty before party loyalty
Distinguish facts, assumptions, judgements and uncertainty. Consider promising ideas from any source and give proper credit.

The net-benefit test
Compare realistic alternatives across benefits, harms, rights, delivery, incentives, uncertainty, long-term effects and who bears the burden.

Rights and dignity set limits
Fundamental rights, legality, due process and irreversible harm are not ordinary entries in a spreadsheet.

Think beyond the next election
Debt, infrastructure, climate, technology and institutional capacity must be judged across generations.

Growth and capable public services
Productive enterprise and competent institutions are both necessary for stronger living standards.

Fair opportunity and a secure minimum
Protect people in genuine need while making work, recovery, caring and independence worthwhile.

Accountability for decisions and results
Publish what can responsibly be published, set review conditions and change or end policies that fail.

Strong subject knowledge remains essential. Honest Politics also wants every pupil to leave school able to manage the practical demands of adulthood.

Practical capability across health, relationships, money, work, digital life, information, safety, civics and basic life administration throughout school.
The discipline
Co-design with teachers, compare daily and block-based delivery, protect academic attainment and expand only where measured benefits justify the time, workload and cost displaced.

We cannot assess everything. Ideas with a plausible surface case earn serious work, regardless of origin.
