Questions

Frequently asked questions.

The things people ask first — answered plainly. If yours isn’t here, ask us directly

Are you left‑wing or right‑wing?

Neither. We don’t start from a tribe, we start from the evidence and from cost versus benefit. On any given issue we’ll land where the evidence points — sometimes that looks “left,” sometimes “right.” We’d rather be accurate than loyal to a label.

Are you a registered political party?

Not yet. We’re a future party — currently a set of principles and policies published in the open. We intend to register properly with the Electoral Commission, and we’ll say so here the day it happens.

Who funds you? Are you taking donations?

It’s self‑funded and not funded by taxpayers. We’re not taking donations right now — partly to stay well clear of party‑finance rules until we’re registered, and partly because we’d rather earn trust first. If that changes, we’ll be transparent about it.

Who’s behind it?

Right now, one person and an idea that wouldn’t go away. There’s a short note from the founder on the About page . The whole point, though, is to grow beyond one person — especially by bringing in experts who know more than we do.

What makes you different from other parties?

Three habits. We publish our working — full costings wherever public money is involved. We mark our judgements as judgements, not settled facts. And when we don’t know something, we say so and bring in an expert instead of waffling or pivoting.

Where do the “What matters” numbers come from?

They’re our own working estimates: our read on how much attention an issue gets versus how much it actually shapes the country over the long run. They’re openly held and open to challenge — the point is the gap, not the exact figure. Over time we’d like to anchor the attention side to published polling. See the page

Isn’t “honest politics” a bit naïve?

Maybe. But as far as we can tell, nobody has really tried simply refusing to spin, publishing the working, and admitting the gaps. Honesty isn’t the same as having every answer — it’s being straight about the ones you don’t have.

What’s your position on [immigration / the NHS / tax]?

Every position is published openly on the Policies page , each with a tag showing how settled it is. Where we’re still working something out, you’ll find it on Open questions rather than dressed up as a firm answer.

Will you stand candidates? When?

The intention is to register and stand for election once there’s real support behind the ideas. We won’t put a fake date on it — that would be exactly the kind of promise we’re trying to get away from.

How can I help?

Become a supporter, volunteer, or — especially — lend your expertise. Our whole model depends on people who know more than we do. The Get involved page has a short form; pick “expert” and tell us your field.
