About
Who’s behind this.
Honestly? Right now, it’s one person and an idea that wouldn’t go away.
Honest Politics began as one person’s frustration with a system that rewards the good headline over the good decision. It isn’t funded by taxpayers, and it isn’t asking anyone for money. It’s a set of principles written in the open, in the hope they’re worth building on.
A note from the founder
I started Honest Politics because I got tired of watching good decisions lose to good headlines. I’m not a career politician, and I don’t have all the answers — that’s rather the point. What I do believe is that a party could simply refuse to spin, publish its working, and be willing to say “I don’t know — let’s ask someone who does.”
If that sounds like the politics you’ve been waiting for, I’d genuinely like your help building it.
— Max, founder of Honest Politics
We say “we” because this is meant to become bigger than any one person — and because the whole point is to bring in people who know more than we do: teachers, economists, clinicians, police officers, care workers, and ordinary people who just want politics to be straight with them.
We intend to become a registered political party and do it properly — including the boring but important things like registration, an imprint and full financial transparency. We’ll say so here the day it happens.
What you can hold us to
Three things. We’ll publish costings wherever public money is involved. We’ll mark our judgements as judgements, not facts. And when we don’t know, we’ll say so and find someone who does — rather than waffle or pivot.
