Honest Politics should support:
- literacy, numeracy, science, humanities and rigorous subject teaching;
- high-quality technical and vocational routes;
- apprenticeships linked to real occupational standards and employer demand;
- financial, digital, civic, health and employment capability taught without displacing core knowledge;
- better transitions between school, further education, university and work;
- evidence-led action on teacher workload, retention and school leadership;
- clearer information on course outcomes without reducing education to salary alone;
- international exchange and study where access and value can be demonstrated.
Investigation
- whether selected degree courses can be offered effectively in two years;
- university funding;
- tuition and maintenance support;
- curriculum content and timetable;
- accountability and inspection reform.
The previous website described a fixed daily timetable and national rollout. That level of detail is not yet justified. Honest Politics still supports financial, digital, civic, health and employment capability, but the timetable, age sequencing and assessment model should be co-designed with practising teachers, piloted and measured before wider adoption.
Practical capabilities without weakening core knowledge
Main cost and strongest objection
Adding practical capabilities, technical routes and better transitions requires curriculum time, trained staff, employer capacity and funding. Poorly designed reform can overload schools or narrow education to immediate labour-market needs.
The strongest objection: that combining rigorous knowledge with a wider practical curriculum may become an attractive list of additions without saying what schools should stop doing.
What could change this direction
The direction should change where a reform weakens core learning, increases workload without benefit or fails to improve later education, work or civic outcomes.
Before this becomes a developed proposal
The policy must identify a precise problem, realistic options, evidence, rights, distribution, cost, delivery responsibility, territorial scope, evaluation and stopping conditions. A stronger public status cannot be created by wording alone.
